KRAZY DAYZ Legionnaires Sun Hat

October 23, 2011

bullet A quick and easy Fabric Painting Project for age 5 to Adult.
bullet Requirements:

bullet 1 45ml bottle Pebeo Setacolor Fabric paint
bullet 1 white Legionnaires Sun Hat, or any white Sun Hat.
bullet Salt Crystals.
bullet Large Paint brush or sponge.

  Method

bullet Mix a solution of water and Pebeo Setacolor Fabric paint.
bullet The more water the lighter the colour. Can be diluted to a level of one part paint two parts water.
bullet Either indoors or away from direct sunlight apply a liberal application of paint either using a brush or a sponge.
bullet Ensure that the fabric is wet.
bullet Place the fabric on a flat dry surface such as a vinyl tile.
bullet flatten the cap as much as possible, making peaks and hollows.
bullet Apply a liberal application of Salt Crystals.
bullet Allow the hat to dry in direct sunlight. This will aid the process of the salt absorbing the paint.
bullet Once dry you will have a superb Summer Sun Hat.

Hints and Tips

bullet Pebeo Setacolor Fabric paint is Photosensitive.

bullet Spectacular effects can be achieved by shielding areas from light.
bullet Scatter items such as leaves or cut out shapes to the fabric after painting.
bullet Move items to direct sunlight, ensuring that the covered areas remain covered.
bullet Fabric sheltered from the sunlight will retain a darker colour, while certain items that shield the fabric will also absorb paint at different levels leaving a pattered effect.
bullet use more than one colour, apply liberal amount of salt in the areas where paint merges.

Apply a liberal amount of watered down Pebeo Setacolor Fabric Paint. Use either a sponge or large paint brush.
Once the hat is covered in paint, and still wet, flatten it out on a flat surface.
Apply a liberal amount of Salt Crystals to the hat. Areas with no salt will remain colour true, while the salt absorbes the colour in oter areas.

Shuffle the salt crystals around to achieve different effects.
